FAQ

What is VoIP?
VoIP means Voice over Internet Protocol. Basically it is another form of communication to use instead of a landline telephone system to connect with clients, family and friends. VoIP helps you save money on your calls especially when it comes to international phone calls and calls made to mobiles. This can be very beneficial to small businesses.

What happens if the internet is down? Will I still be able to make calls?

If the internet is down for any reason, our quality equipment easily allows you to switch back to a landline. At Cairns VoIP we understand being able to communicate in business is one of the most important factors.  Although, the internet going down is a rare occasion you can be reassured you will still be able to make and receive important business calls even if it does.

How is the quality of voice?

VoIP sound quality has improved through the years with increased internet speeds and advances to technology.  Your VoIP should be clear, if it isn’t, there could be a problem with the quality of your hardware, local network traffic, and/or network speeds.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Yes, you can keep your existing phone number. In addition, you can also program your system to display your landline number when calling from a VoIP line or another option is to have the VoIP line display a local number even if you are working from an office in a different location. Please inform us if either of these features is of interest to you and we will ensure to explain the process to you.

What are the advantages of VoIP?

VoIP can save you hundreds if not thousands a year on your phone bill. With the National Broadband Network (NBN) being installed throughout Australia, the cost will be even more effective.  In some cases you don’t even have to dial a phone anymore; you can directly connect with clients from your computer.

If I don’t want to use VoIP yet, can I still use the hardware regularly?

Yes, if you aren’t quite ready to make the switch to VoIP, we can still install a phone system for your business which has the capability to use VoIP in the future. The systems are high quality and can easily be scaled to meet your business’s needs.

Can I use Skype instead of VoIP?

Although Skype is great for home users; it currently doesn’t provide clear enough sound or reliable solutions for businesses.
